Professional Background

Dr. Timothy Nguyen @drtimtherapy is a psychologist and therapist specializing in treating couples, individuals, teens, and families.
  • About Me

I am a licensed psychologist registered with the California Board of Psychology. I earned my Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) with a concentration in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from California Southern University and a Master in Social Welfare from UCLA.

  • Professional Journey

For over fourteen years, I have worked across a range of settings—including federally qualified health centers, outpatient clinics, nonprofits, and college campuses. While my early work spanned diverse populations, my current practice centers on private practice, where I help high-achieving professionals navigate the unique pressures of demanding careers. My clients include, but are not limited to, attorneys, law enforcement officers, physicians and other medical professionals, engineers, technology workers, and executives who experience career-driven stress and its impact on personal relationships.

  • Roles in Education and Leadership

Beyond clinical practice, I hold a leadership position at a local university as Program Coordinator and Advisor for master’s-level graduate students. I have also managed physicians within integrated behavioral health teams and currently oversee faculty and student enrollment in academic programs. These roles give me firsthand insight into organizational stress, leadership challenges, and interpersonal dynamics that affect performance at work and connection at home.

  • Clinical Focus

Although my early work encompassed a broad range of clients—college students, young professionals, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, prisoners, and older adults—the focus today is couples therapy grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I specialize in helping couples reconnect when career demands create distance, with particular attention to professionals in medicine, law, executive leadership, technology, law enforcement, finance, and other high-pressure fields.

  • Additional Expertise

I bring a specialized perspective to college admissions processes, having evaluated hundreds of graduate-level applications. This experience provides valuable insights for parents navigating their teens’ academic journeys and college applications, helping to reduce anxiety and align expectations with both personal goals and institutional realities.
