Not at all, and honestly, waiting until you’re in crisis is one of the most common mistakes people make. Most BalanceHour clients come in because something feels off: a relationship that keeps hitting the same wall, an anxiety that won’t fully lift, or a career that looks great on paper but feels hollow on the inside. If you’re functioning but not thriving, that’s exactly the right time to start.

Sessions are private pay, meaning BalanceHour doesn’t bill insurance directly. If you have a PPO plan, we provide a superbill after each session that you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO clients receive 40 to 70 percent back. If you’re not sure whether your plan qualifies, we’re happy to help you figure that out on your free consultation call. We’d rather you know the full picture upfront than have cost become a surprise later.

Yes! We’re currently welcoming new clients for individual therapy, couples counseling, EMDR, and coaching. Most people get their first session within 7 business days of reaching out. If you’ve been thinking about this for a while, the gap between ‘considering it’ and ‘actually doing something’ is usually just one 10-minute conversation.

The first session is a real conversation. You’ll talk about what brought you in, what you’ve already tried, and what you’re genuinely hoping to feel differently going forward. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out before you arrive. Most people leave the first session saying they wish they had come sooner.

Many clients notice something shifting within 2 to 4 sessions. Not a complete transformation, but a sense that the patterns are becoming clearer and a little less automatic. The timeline depends on what you’re working on and how long it’s been building. 

That’s one of the most honest questions someone can ask, and it deserves a straight answer. The most common reason therapy doesn’t work isn’t the client. It’s usually the fit, the method, or a therapist who kept a comfortable distance when what you actually needed was someone willing to go into the harder stuff with you. BalanceHour therapists use evidence-based approaches like EMDR, EFT, and CBT rather than open-ended listening alone. And we offer a free 10-minute call specifically so you can get a real sense of whether this feels different before committing to anything.

If the approach isn’t landing or the connection isn’t quite right, it’s our job to name it and help you find a better fit. We’re not interested in sessions for the sake of sessions. Good therapy moves forward. If it’s not, something needs to change, and we’ll help you figure out what that is, even if the answer turns out to be a different therapist.

Yes, completely. What happens in session stays in session, both legally and ethically. There are narrow exceptions required by law, but outside of those specific situations, nothing leaves the room.

Virtual sessions run through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. The research is clear that for anxiety, individual therapy, and coaching, virtual sessions can produce outcomes that are just as strong as in-person. Couples therapy is a bit more nuanced since the in-room dynamic matters, but we do offer virtual couples sessions for clients across California who can’t make it to our Dublin office. If you’re unsure which format fits your situation, that’s a great thing to talk through on the free consultation call.

Therapy tends to work with the why: patterns rooted in the past, emotional regulation, relationship dynamics, and trauma. Coaching tends to work with what’s next: clarity, performance, leadership presence, and decision-making.
